VSRI Screening: Filmmakers for the Prosecution
The Visual Studies Research Institute presents a screening of Filmmakers for the
Prosecution, directed by Jean-Christophe Klotz. The documentary tells the remarkable true
story of the Office of Strategic Services officers who searched for motion-picture evidence
that could be used to prosecute Nazi leaders at the International Military Tribunal in
Nuremberg.
Featuring newly discovered archival footage, the film traces the search for these images
and their historic presentation as evidence in a court of law. Filmmakers for the
Prosecution offers a powerful account of how moving images helped convict Nazi war
criminals while shaping the historical record and collective memory of the Holocaust.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Sylvie Lindeperg of Université Paris 1 and
USC professors Michael Renov and Vanessa Schwartz. Join us for a timely conversation
about film as historical evidence, the ethics of representing atrocity, and the relationship
between cinema, memory, and justice.
