Saxophone Studio Recital

The UA Saxophone Studio is comprised of students with diverse professional and musical interests who are pursuing a variety of degree paths. Students and alumni from the UA Saxophone Studio can be found all over the country in their professional careers as teachers, performers, physicians, entrepreneurs, and much more!About the studio director: Dr. Justin Evangelist is a concert saxophonist, chamber musician, and educator who has performed across the United States. He is known for commissioning and premiering new works for saxophone by composers such as Dustin Schulze, Sepehr Pirasteh, and Alyssa Morris. Evangelist has appeared with ensembles including the University Heights Symphonic Band, Oklahoma Baptist University Symphonic Winds, and the University of Akron Symphony Orchestra. He also performs with jazz groups, community ensembles, and has shared the stage with artists at both local and national levels. Evangelist regularly presents at major music conferences, including the North American Saxophone Alliance, United States Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium, ClarinetFest©, and the Society of Composers, Inc. Evangelist has won awards such as the 2017 MTNA (OH) Young Artist Competition and has been recognized nationally with saxophone quartets. He co-founded the Red Rose Duo, dedicated to new music for saxophone and clarinet, and was recently featured on 90.3 Classical KUCO. Evangelist is an Assistant Professor of Practice at The University of Akron, where he teaches saxophone and chamber music. He previously taught at Oklahoma Baptist University and Oklahoma City Community College, and holds degrees from The University of Oklahoma, Central Michigan University, and the University of Akron.
