Amy Pleasant began a quest for particular vintage photographs at the local flea markets in her northeast Ohio hometown. She was looking for unscripted instances, a look, a gesture, a stance that provided a hint at what's true. Her paintings are rooted in these finds, a final attempt at animating a woman, a moment, a hidden story.
