Join us at Hiker Fest, presented by Mercy Health, for a full mind, body and wellness experience. Embrace the beauty of the season at this fall celebration of outdoor adventure and community. Experience the progress happening along the Maumee River, discover restoration projects, and explore new greenspaces on the evolving Toledo riverfront. Take part in volunteer-led hikes along the Riverwalk, learn hiking and health tips during informative sessions, and explore gear, clubs, and resources at the hiking fair.

This free event is part of a collaborative campaign between Metroparks Toledo and Mercy Health that promotes the power of parks in improving the community’s mental and physical well-being.

Whether you’re an experienced hiker or new to the trails, this event offers inspiration and tools to help you enjoy the outdoors all season long. Registration required for guided walks. You do not need to register to participate in the event. Enjoy the Riverwalk on your own and without a guide if you would like!

Information Sessions:

* 10:00 AM: "Life with Diabetes" with Brenda Bal. Brenda is a registered nurse and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) with Mercy Health St. Vincent Diabetes Education. They provide education and support to individuals living with Type 1, Type 2, pre-diabetes, and gestational diabetes and offer group classes and individual sessions.

* 11:30 AM: "Hike Readiness" with Alissa Caple. Nervous about heading into the woods on your own? Want to try a longer trek? Join Programming Specialist and hiking enthusiast Alissa Caple for hike planning 101, including a pack shakedown of her favorite gear.

* 12:30 PM: “On Patrol With a Ranger” with SGT. Erin Kaiser. Metroparks Rangers keep the Metroparks clean, safe, and natural by enforcing laws and regulations and providing assistance to visitors. Hear from one of the Rangers who patrol Glass City Riverwalk, which is unique among the 19 Metroparks for many reasons, including unique attractions and major events.

All hikes will run rain, snow, or shine. Please dress for the weather in layers and bring water in a reusable water bottle, snacks for longer hikes, and a backpack to carry your items. All minors must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event.

These hikes are dog friendly for friendly dogs. All dogs must stay on trail and on a 6ft leash for the duration of the program. Participating dogs must be licensed, vaccinated, spayed/neutered and four months of age or older. No more than 2 dogs per person. If any dog is being disruptive or aggressive they will be asked to separate from the group. Please be aware that there might be some people attending the program that will not want a dog near them. Thank you for being sensitive to this possibility.
