What is the Winter Solstice?

The Winter Solstice is an astronomical event when the Sun reaches its lowest point in the sky relative to the equator, resulting in the shortest day of the year and the official start of winter. It is also a celebration of the anticipation of the eventual return of the light. Celebrating the solstices and equinoxes in modern times is a way to reconnect to the natural world and its powerful effect on us.
