Destiny's Dance: Jazz Experimentation of the 1980s The 1980s was a transitional decade for jazz. The popular music-jazz hybrid experiments of Miles Davis, John Scofield, Chick Corea, David Sanborn, and others were dominating the airwaves. During this time there were also numerous young musicians who looked back to and performed with established innovators to push jazz into new creative territory. For the Autumn concert, the jazz ensemble will explore the music of the new crop of creative jazz artists of the 1980s, including compositions by Geri Allen, Wynton Marsalis, Steve Coleman, Cassandra Wilson, and Chico Freeman, among others.Free admission
