Chicago International Film Festival: 14th

14thDirector: Ava DuVernay • 100mCountries: USALanguage: English Thursday 10/22 6:30 PM | Logan Center Performance HallWritten in the wreckage of the Civil War, the 14th Amendment was meant to close the door on the hierarchy of human worth. Instead, it has become a permanent argument. Ava DuVernay's 14th pulls this constitutional fight out of the footnotes and into the present, chronicling the vicious battle over the amendment that has raged for over 150 years. Mixing deep archival scholarship and a pumping soundtrack with the piercing headlines of recent events, 14th brings together politicians (from JB Pritzker to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez), legal experts, historians, and cultural voices in direct conversation with questions that America continues to grapple with: Who gets to belong, and what are the rights they're entitled to.Presented in partnership with The Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts and The Film Studies Center at The University of Chicago.ChicagoIFF will offer a discount to all University of Chicago students, faculty, and staff at $3 off for all screenings held at the Logan Center, with code 62FestLogan.
