Stories Objects Hold: Exploring (Non)Material Remnants of Türkiye: Curator and Artist in Conversation on "Time, Fragmented"

What stories do objects carry long after the people and places that made them have changed? Join ISAC Museum curator Kiersten Neumann for a conversation with Defne Ergöz, curator of Time, Fragmented (https://vrc.uchicago.edu/time-fragmented), and New Orleans-based Turkish artist Deniz Türkoğlu Hewes, whose work is featured in the exhibition. Together they will explore how turn-of-the-century postcards and photographs, architectural fragments, expedition archives, and contemporary conceptual photography can be pieced together to tell layered histories of modern-day Türkiye. The discussion will consider practices of unearthing, both literal and figurative, and how personal and family archives, artistic practice, and museum collections each shape the ways we remember, and imagine, a place. The conversation will be followed by an audience Q&A and reception.Time, Fragmented (https://vrc.uchicago.edu/time-fragmented) is on view at the Cochrane-Woods Art Center (October 21–December 4, 2026) as part of the CWAC Exhibition series.
