The Logan Center for the Arts and Hyde Park Jazz Society presents Third Tuesday Jazz: Trio Nexus Join Trio Nexus at our Third Tuesday Jazz Series with an intimate performance in The Hunt Café at Logan. October 20th | 7:30pm Logan Center for the Arts | Cafe Logan 915 E. 60 th Street | Chicago, ILTrio Nexus is the convergence of point between pianist Reggie Thomas, bassist Dennis Carroll and drummer George Fludas. Performing original music and takes on standard jazz repertoire, there is no inherent leader or preplanned destination to performance. Instead, the artists create an honest connection point where collective thought and improvisation meet between the three equal voices.Reggie Thomas is former Coordinator of Jazz Studies at Northern Illinois University. Including his time at Michigan State University and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, he taught college for 34 years and remains active with some of the top institutions in jazz and music education including Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz (formerly the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz). Reggie can also be seen fronting his own groups (Mardra/Reggie Thomas Ensemble; OGD) on both piano and Hammond organ and is pianist for the Legendary Count Basie Orchestra. Thomas has performed across the US in cities including Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and St. Louis and abroad in Brisbane, Calgary, London, Milan, Montreal, Poznan, Senegal, Sydney, Tokyo, Toronto, Trinidad and Warsaw.Dennis Carroll has been playing bass professionally, for over 30 years. He has become a nationally sought-after bassist, with deep roots in Chicago. Mr. Carroll has worked with artists such as Eddie Harris, Eric Alexander, Jacky Terrasson, Eric Reed, David "fathead" Newman, Ron Blake, Charles McPherson, Ira Sullivan, Bobby Broom, Bobby Hutcherson, Johhny O'Neal, John Scofield, Peter Erskine, Jodie Christian, Ron Perrillo, Von Freeman and Clark Terry, Roy Hargrove, Nicholas Payton, Pharoah Sanders…to name a few. Over the years he has gathered extensive teaching experience, including teaching at Northwestern University, and currently at Ravinia's, "Reach, Teach, and Play" program and jazz bass professor at DePaul University. Drummer George Fludas began his professional career in the late 80's playing with Chicago greats Von Freeman, Jodie Christian and Lin Halliday, as well as playing in groups with guitarist Bobby Broom, and saxophonists Ron Blake and Eric Alexander. He has performed at numerous jazz venues in the U.S. such as the Jazz Showcase in Chicago, Yoshi's in Oakland, the Blue Note, Village Vanguard, Smoke and the Jazz Standard in New York and Catalina's in Hollywood, as well as many international Jazz Festivals, including Montreal Festival du Jazz, Bern Jazz Fest in Switzerland, Glasgow and Edinburgh Jazz Fests, Vitoria Jazz Fest, San Sebastian Fest in Spain and the USS Norway Jazz Cruise. He toured Europe and Japan extensively as a member of Ray Brown's Trio, and with groups led by Hank Jones, Diana Krall, Monty Alexander, Cedar Walton and Joey Defrancesco.ABOUT THE SERIES The Hyde Park Jazz Society selects local jazz musicians and those with a Chicago connection to perform on the third Tuesday of the month from October to June at The Hunt Café at Logan. The Café will offer its full menu for purchase, including wine, beer, and a coffee bar. Third Tuesday Jazz is presented by the Logan Center, Hyde Park Jazz Society, and 90.9FM WDCB Jazz Radio with support from the Robert S. Guttman Family Charitable Fund and friends of the Logan Center. Admission is free; suggested donation $5, seating is first come, first served. Parking is free in surface lot at 60th and Drexel Avenue.
