GMD Event | Sequins (and more) Mending Workshop with RETHINK

Sequins are a staple of many wardrobes, and often need help to stay put. This workshop is led by local upcycler and professional mender Kristen McCoy of RETHINK (https://rethinktailoring.com/), who will begin by introducing environmental concerns related to sequins and fast fashion's treatment of garments as disposable. The hands-on workshop will teach participants how to mend garments (sequined or otherwise) and keep them out of landfills.   WHAT TO EXPECT  Beginners welcome! No sewing machines will be used. Sewing supplies (needles, scissors, thread, etc.) will be provided for use during the workshop. Participants are encouraged to bring a garment from home to work on, with sequins (or other embellishments) that are falling off or coming loose. Don't have a specific piece to bring? RETHINK will provide sewing samples to participants who do not bring their own garment to learn stitches and knots. Skills learned can also be used to repair buttons or fix fallen hems.  Registration is required for this FREE workshop so we can prepare the necessary supplies. We look forward to stitching with you!REGISTRATION LINK COMING SOON ABOUT THE PRESENTER   Kristen McCoy (she/they) is a clothing designer and environmental activist in South Minneapolis, with more than 32 years of experience upcycling and 18 years of experience mending and tailoring for clients.
