From Winters to WisconsinIn 1846, residents of small towns in the eastern Netherlands—such as Winterswijk, Aalten, and Dinxperloaccounted for nearly one-third of all Dutch migrants to the United States, settling primarily in Wisconsin and Nebraska. This project brings together Dutch filmmaker and mixed-media artist Udo Prinsen and American trombonist and composer Ryan Keberle to explore this shared history and its continuing cultural resonance, particularly as it relates to ideas of independence, freedom, and transatlantic exchange.Through a collaborative process rooted in music, film, and visual art, we will create a short poetic music film that connects this 19th-century migration to present-day cultural values shaped by the Declaration of Independence. The journeys of these early settlers symbolize a pioneering mentality that continues to link Dutch and American identities—one grounded in resilience, independent thinking, and belief in a more open future.Tickets are available in advance through Ticket Services.
