Blue Hills Chapter – Volunteer Workday
Join the Blue Hills Chapter for a volunteer workday on the Ice Age Trail!
Workdays are a hands-on way to help build, maintain, and care for the trail in the Blue Hills area.
Volunteers will meet near Stout Road parking lot at 8:30 a.m. (See map link below for exact location.) From there, the group will review current trail needs, choose a work plan for the morning, gather tools from the nearby tool trailer, and head to the worksite.
Projects vary depending on trail conditions, weather, crew size, and volunteer interests. Work may include new tread construction, mowing or maintaining existing trail, clearing reported downed trees, brushing, or helping with other priority trail tasks.
No prior trail work experience is needed. New volunteers are welcome to simply show up. Crew leaders will provide direction, tools, and safety guidance, and any needed volunteer paperwork can be completed after arrival.
Workdays are casual, flexible, and beginner-friendly. Some tasks may be more physical, while others may focus on lighter maintenance or support work. Crew leaders will help match volunteers with appropriate tasks, so you do not need previous trail building experience to participate.
Workdays typically wrap up shortly after noon. Afterward, volunteers often gather for snacks and beverages. Water, soda, Gatorade, and baked goods are usually shared, so volunteers do not need to bring lunch unless they prefer to.
Please come prepared with:
Long pants
Sturdy work shoes or boots
Work gloves
Water and any personal snacks you may want
Tools will be provided.
Workdays are weather dependent. If conditions are not suitable, updates or cancellations will be shared before the workday. Subscribe to our email or check out our Facebook page for the most up-to-date information.
This Blue Hills volunteer workday is a great opportunity to support the Ice Age Trail, meet other local trail volunteers, and help keep the Blue Hills trail system moving forward.
Every volunteer helps make the trail better for everyone.
