A Birthday Celebration!

Join us as we celebrate 50 years of the Elizabeth Nesbitt Collection and 125 years of the Training School for Children's Librarians—now Pitt's Master of Library and Information Science Program!

The evening features a panel, exhibit, and light refreshments, exploring the origins of these historic Pittsburgh institutions: pioneering contributions to libraries and children, lively anecdotes of the pioneers behind them, and a look at what's ahead.

Founded in 1901 by Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, the Training School was the world's first program to train librarians to serve children. Its core teaching materials became the nucleus of the Elizabeth Nesbitt Collection, formally named and dedicated in 1976.
