Sketching at Mount Mora Cemetery
Experience one of St. Joseph’s most historic landmarks through the eyes of an artist during Sketching at Mount Mora Cemetery.
The day begins with a guided walking tour led by local historian Suzanne Lehr, who will share stories about the cemetery’s history, architecture, monuments, and the people who helped shape St. Joseph.
Established in 1851, Mount Mora is St. Joseph’s oldest operating cemetery and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The cemetery is especially known for its historic mausoleums, monuments, and connections to prominent figures from St. Joseph’s past.
Following the tour, participants can spend the afternoon sketching throughout the cemetery until 4:00 p.m. Artists can draw inspiration from architectural details, historic monuments, landscapes, and the cemetery’s peaceful surroundings.
Artists of all skill levels are welcome. Participants should bring their preferred sketching or plein air supplies, dress for the weather, and consider bringing a picnic lunch.
Proceeds from this special event will benefit both the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art and Mount Mora Cemetery.
