Qualitative Data Analysis with KanQual, workshop by Dr. Mehmet Cansoy

Discover a new, flexible way to work with qualitative data in this hands-on introduction to KanQual, a free and open-source platform for organizing, exploring, analyzing, and presenting qualitative research. Designed for beginners as well as experienced researchers, KanQual brings your research materials together in one place without expensive subscriptions or restrictive workflows.

Participants will learn how KanQual can work with a wide range of research materials—including text, PDFs, interview transcripts, audio, video, and images—and help organize complex projects in ways that fit their own research questions. We will explore tools for coding and searching data, connecting materials and ideas, building timelines, and creating graphical representations that make relationships and patterns easier to see. KanQual can also help transform analysis into outputs, including visualizations and written reports.

The workshop will also introduce KanQual’s integration of artificial intelligence into qualitative research. Participants will see how both locally running AI models and cloud-based AI services can assist with exploring, summarizing, organizing, and analyzing qualitative materials while allowing researchers to decide how and when AI is used.

Whether you are beginning your first qualitative project or looking for a more flexible way to manage a large collection of research materials, this workshop will show how KanQual can support the research process from raw data to analysis, visualization, and presentation.

Hosted by the Fredrickson Family Innovation Lab and presented by Dr. Mehmet Cansoy, Associate Professor, Sociology & Anthropology,
