inti figgis-vizueta's Music for Transitions

Composer inti figgis-vizueta presents her 2026 debut record Music for Transitions with a performance featuring Grammy Award-winning cellist Andrew Yee and the Germany-based Rothko String Quartet \(RSQ\).

Exploring Indigenous heritage and trans identity through playful, ecstatic soundscapes, Music for Transitions exemplifies figgis-vizueta’s deep commitment to personal liberation through group improvisation. Recurring themes of land, wind, rivers, and cosmology are framed by constant musical transformation in what composer George Lewis calls “the dynamics of the decolonial.”

This 70-minute program is the culmination of over six years of simultaneous collaborations between figgis-vizueta, Yee, and the RSQ. In their work together and with different ensembles, Yee and the RSQ have premiered over 15 works by figgis-vizueta in the United States and Germany, establishing themselves as champions of her music. Join us for this unforgettable evening showcasing the creative heights of this cello quintet in celebration of the new release of Music for Transitions.

This event will be followed by a reception in the DR Center Gallery, now showing Woven Wonders: Kykuit’s Picasso Tapestries.
