Natalie Forteza: NOSTALGIA: Songs / Canciones
Nostalgia: Songs/Canciones - Some songs carry more than melody. They carry a place, a voice, a familiar room, nostalgia. They carry the people we’ve loved and the lives we once knew.
For this special evening, NATALIE FORTEZA returns to The Howland Center, stepping outside the repertoire of her usual performances and opens the door to something more personal—a nostalgic collection of songs (canciones) woven through memory, family, and heritage.
The set will highlight a romantic set of songs that reach back to her familia (family), to the sounds and stories of her Latin American upbringing, and to the people and memories that remain with her through music. Natalie will be performing some songs sung in Spanish, and songs arranged in Latin/Latin-Jazz influenced styles, joined by The Dan Garcia Trio: featuring Dan Garcia on Spanish guitar, Nate Allen on bass and Dave Previ on drums.
An evening of songs from somewhere deep in the heart—music that looks back, reaches inward, and perhaps reminds us of someone, somewhere, or some time we carry with us, too.
Tapping into both the sultry and sweet, Natalie Forteza’s unique voice effortlessly summons emotion through layers of Indie, Neo-Soul, Pop Jazz and World Music with soulful mystique. Named “a commanding vocalist and songwriter of considerable impact,” by Chronogram Magazine. She has opened for Allen Stone, Philly-Soul singer Mutlu and Charlie Hunter, and has recently toured with the The Latin Dead as a guest vocalist. Grammy-winner Michael League (Snarky Puppy) has said, “my favorite musicians are those who have their own sound—the ones you recognize the instant you hear them. This is how I felt when I first heard Natalie. She creates a vibe from the first note, and holds you until the last one…”

Grammy-winner Michael League / Snarky Puppy - "My favorite musicians are those who have their own sound—the ones you recognize the instant you hear them. This is how I felt when I first heard Natalie. She creates a vibe from the first note, and holds you until the last one. And in addition to that, she's an absolute joy to be around. It was a pleasure to be a part of her debut album.”
"Over the course of just four songs on her debut recording, lower Hudson Valley native NATALIE FORTEZA introduces herself as a commanding vocalist and songwriter of considerable impact. Aided and abetted by Grammy award-winning producer Michael League of Snarky Puppy, who impeccably contextualizes her voice in a brilliant bath of crystalline acoustic and electronic textures, Forteza shines here with her dynamic range of rhythms and emotions. obvious touchstones are Sade and Norah Jones, but i hear glimpses of Stevie Wonder, Astrud Gilberto, and Anita Baker as well."
