Poetry Reading and Mirco-Workshop with Gauri Awasthi

In honor of the release of her debut poetry collection Mother Wound, Gauri Awasthi will join us for a reading and small workshop. Attendees will listen to poems from the collection and will be invited to write and share their own poems based on a writing exercise given by the poet.

Gauri Awasthi is a multidisciplinary artist living in New York City. Her debut, Mother Wound, examines the inheritance of trauma through the lens of a daughter. Structured around the rhythm cycle of Indian classical music, it explores the meaning of each note, mirroring the cycle of generational trauma that passes through women. Poet Eileen Myles writes that the poems in the book are “bright and incidental.”
