STVP Studio: Deconstruct → Reconstruct Featuring MILL
Curious what an existing product, its evolution, and real-world usage data can teach us about building what comes next?
Join us for STVP Studio: Deconstruct → Reconstruct!
The Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP) invites you to a half-day, hands-on workshop featuring Mill, an in-home food-recycling system designed to transform how households manage food scraps.
Working in interdisciplinary teams, you will interact with the Mill food recycler, examine anonymized customer and usage data, and deconstruct the assumptions behind its users, design, technology, value proposition, and business model. You will then use your findings to propose and test a possible next step for the product or its market application.
At this STVP Studio, you’ll:
Investigate: Examine the product and available data, map the user experience, and identify the decisions and assumptions embedded in the current system.
Stress test: Explore competing interpretations, identify evidence gaps and biases, and consider where the product, experience, proposition, or market application could be strengthened.
Reconstruct: Develop an evidence-based proposal for what Mill could try next, such as a product feature, customer experience intervention, new market application, channel, partnership, or focused experiment.
Share your findings: Present and defend your recommendation based on evidence, reasoning, and clearly stated assumptions, not presentation polish.
Who Should Attend?
This workshop is open to active Stanford students from any major or program.
No startup idea or prior entrepreneurship experience is required. Come ready to think critically, collaborate with new people, and explore how STVP approaches entrepreneurial problem-solving.
What to Expect
You’ll work in a team of three to four students from different majors & programs. This is a participatory workshop rather than a lecture, so please plan to attend the full session.
Light catering will be provided.
PLEASE NOTE: Space is limited. If your plans change, please cancel your registration promptly so another student can attend.
This event is strictly for Stanford University students only.
Thank you to our friends at Mill for partnering with us on this workshop!
