Growing Culinary Mushrooms at Home

Growing delicious, nutritious mushrooms at home is easier than you might think. Mushrooms are a nutrient-dense, low-calorie way to add fiber, B vitamins, potassium, and umami-rich flavor to your meals, and they taste even better when harvested fresh from your own mini mushroom farm.

This workshop blends a short, science-grounded lecture with hands-on skill building. You will learn the basics of home mushroom cultivation, including substrate options, humidity, light needs, and common troubleshooting, along with the nutritional benefits of mushrooms and a few fun, easy recipes for making the most of your harvest. Everyone will prepare a container with their own mushroom spawn to take home and cultivate at home and review harvesting cues and simple, food-safe storage and cooking methods.

You will leave with a repeatable, step-by-step method for reliable harvests, a plan for working mushrooms into weeknight meals, and habits that make home growing low-effort and resilient. Expect a fun, rewarding experience, equal parts kitchen science and gardening.
