Slow Looking in the Gallery
Slow Looking is an intentional practice of spending a longer period of time with a single piece of work. We will have a brief check-in conversation and then engage in at least two slow looking experiences each week. Slow looking goes beyond art appreciation. Research has identified cognitive, physiological, and emotional benefits including: Stress Reduction and Relaxation Enhanced Cognitive Engagement Emotional Depth and Empathy Improved Observational Skills Mindfulness Psychological support Increased Perceived Beauty Social Connectedness No special knowledge of art or artists required, just a sense of curiosity. Some people find it useful to bring a journal or sketchbook as part of their looking tools. Some basic art materials will be available.
