Asphalt Pavement Preservation Treatments, Materials, Constructi on and Quality Assurance

Description Asphalt pavement is a major component of our transportation system. Transportation agencies at the city and county level can maximize the value of their huge investment in streets and roads by using proper pavement preservation strategies. This course provides a solid working knowledge of the most common asphalt pavement maintenance and preservation practices. Common preservation treatments, basic principles, best field practices and quality assurance issues are covered. This is a core course in the pavement engineering and management training program offered by the City and County Pavement Improvement Center \(CCPIC \(http://www.ucprc.ucdavis.edu/ccpic/\)\) in partnership with TechTransfer. Topics IncludePavement preservation overview: concepts and definitions Pavement distress types Treatments to be used based on distress types Fog Seals Chip Seals Slurry Seals Microsurfacing Cape Seals Asphalt materials and mix design process used Construction of asphalt preservation treatments Surface preparation Crack sealing Patching Milling Production Placement Inspection Quality assurance and troubleshooting What You Will Learn By the end of this course, training participants will have a better understanding of the most common pavement preservation strategies and materials used to preserve asphalt pavements. In addition, they will have a better understanding of how to build successful pavement preservation treatments and their most appropriate uses in an agency's overall pavement management plan. Who Should Attend This class is tailored for those directly involved in asphalt pavement maintenance and preservation, as well as maintenance supervisors and managers, engineers with some responsibility for maintenance, pavement management, or rehabilitation. It is appropriate for those who are new to the subject, as well as for experienced pavement managers wanting additional technical background or an update on the state of the practice.mprovement Center \( CCPIC \) in partnership with TechTransfer.
