Meredith Edgar: The Good Evening Folks @ The DeLuxe
The Good Evening Folks conduct a musical seance, raising the ghosts of lovers past through the spiritualist power of song. Featuring the fabulous Meredith Edgar and Lester T. Raww on vocals, The Good Evening Folks sing songs from the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s. Imagine if Keely Smith and Louis Prima met Morticia and Gomez Addams.
Joining Meredith and Lester are Pine Box Boys’ Colonel Timothy Leather (bass) and Alex “Possum” Carvidi (saxophone), as well as Kevin Reidy (trumpet) and Aaron Bonsall (drums).
Born and based in San Francisco, Edgar writes songs that wrap elements of modern Americana in smoky tendrils of 1930s jazz chanteuse darkness. Her voice is supple and expressive, rendering delicate details and subtle shifts of light as masterfully as bold swaths of color. Her lyrics make the personal poetic, and vice versa.
Together, it’s a siren song that lures the listener from the sunny shallows into deeper waters, glimmering and mysterious, mesmerizing and chill-inducing…oh, and fair warning: it’s likely to make you cry.
