A Painterly Pursuit with Reggie Burrows Hodges

Characterized by shadowy figures, dark grounds, and elusive forms, Reggie Burrows Hodges’s recent paintings may seem far removed from the world of the Old Masters. Yet they are informed by a sustained dialogue with early modern European painting. Rather than imitating historical models, Hodges reimagines their formal strategies through a contemporary lens shaped by questions of identity, memory, and perception. Join Hodges and curators Davide Gasparotto and Bridget R. Cooks for a wide-ranging conversation about his artistic practice, inspiration, and storied career. For in-person attendees at the Getty Center, a hosted reception and exhibition viewing follows the conversation. Image: Aida the Homegirl \(detail\), 2024, Reggie Burrows Hodges.
