Story Sparks: Creative comic making to get your ideas flowing

Join this three-part workshop series with artist and educator Lauren Lauter to explore creative drawing and writing exercises for comics and graphic novels. Each three-hour class centers around a different storytelling structure designed to spark creativity, build confidence, and generate new ideas for visual narratives. Classes may be taken individually or as a complete series.

October 13th List Exercises

Using prompts and observation to create list-like comics inspired by works such as "My Friends" by Tara Gomi and "Things to Look Forward To" by Sophie Blackall.

October 20th Small Moments

Delve into memoir comics—personal stories and fleeting memories that reveal deeper meaning through words and images.

October 27th Journey Comics

follow a character \(or yourself\) from one place to another, inspired by stories like "The Missing Piece" by Shel Silverstein. Short journeys can lead to big revelations.

Participants will experiment with storytelling techniques in a supportive and imaginative environment. Materials will be provided for each class. By the end of the series, students will leave with new creative tools, fresh ideas, and original work to support their own illustrative and storytelling endeavors.
