Stepping On: Building Confidence, Reducing Falls Workshop
Did you know that falls are not a normal part of aging and can be prevented? It’s true! Falls don’t have to be common, and many can be prevented through practical lifestyle changes. The Stepping On program is an evidence-based workshop proven to reduce falls by over 30%, and it’s offered right here in Portage County.
In just seven weekly, two-hour sessions, Stepping On participants learn strategies to avoid falls including simple balance and strength exercises, expert tips on home safety, vision, medication, footwear, and much more. Participants can expect to leave with more strength, better balance, and a feeling of confidence and independence.
The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Portage County is hosting a Stepping On workshop from October 8 – November 19, 2026. The program will run from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. until Noon every Thursday. The ADRC of Portage County is located at 1519 Water Street, Stevens Point, WI, 54481.
The workshop is made possible through a generous grant from the United Way. Anyone aged 60 and over is able to attend this workshop on a donation basis. Participants under 60 must pay a tuition fee. No eligible person will be denied participation based on ability to contribute a donation. The suggested donation and tuition fee is $32 and will help cover the cost of running the workshop. Pre-registration is required to participate in this program. The registration deadline is Friday, October 2, 2026.
