High School Art Show

This juried art exhibition showcases the diversity and creativity of student designers and artists from North Dakota and Minnesota high schools.

This year’s juror, Brad Bachmeier, is a ceramic artist, educator, and arts advocate based in the Fargo-Moorhead region. A native of Anamoose, North Dakota, he maintains his studio practice at Bachmeier Pottery and Sculpture south of Fargo.

Bachmeier serves as chair of the School of Art at Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he is professor of art education and co-coordinator of the art therapy program. His contributions have been recognized with the North Dakota Council on the Arts Governor’s Award (the state’s highest honor for artistic achievement), a nomination by the Carnegie Foundation for U.S. Professor of the Year, the Minnesota Higher Arts Educator of the Year Award, and induction into the Fargo North High School Hall of Fame for excellence in teaching.

His work is collected nationally and internationally, with pieces held in collections including the Barack Obama Presidential Library, the Microsoft Permanent Collection, multiple National Park collections, and major regional museums. He is one of only 19 brick sculptors in the United States recognized by the American Brick Association and has completed numerous large-scale brick and relief sculpture public art projects. Bachmeier has received more than 60 grants and awards and has played a central role in building and leading the regional arts ecosystem through nonprofit institution-building, statewide arts advocacy, and senior governance roles in public arts organizations.
