Community Contra Dance
Ely Community Center
$10 at the door, youth dance free \(cash or check preferred\) - pre-registration not available
Join us for our spring social folk dance of the year, where we celebrate the season with live music, traditional dancing, and the joyful gathering of friends, neighbors, and community! All dances are taught live, so people of
all ages and skill levels
can participate. Attendees called the dances "an absolute blast", "a great community event", "so much fun", and "awesome". Another commented, "I'm so happy we have amazing events like this in Ely!!" Someone else said, "This event brings all areas of the community together and bridges the gap between all ages."
The incomparable
Molly Roske
will be our caller for the evening!
Molly Roske, who teaches at Minnesota North's College at the Vermillion Campus and can be seen at the Ely Folk School's dances with her baby daughter Sylvie on her hip and her husband Tim on her arm, was first initiated into the world of dance while attending grad school in New Haven. She met Terrence Smith \(of the Tamarack Dance Association in Duluth\) when he called for the Ely Folk School dances and hired him to call for her wedding. When Terrence shared a flier at an EFS dance about a calling workshop, she rallied some friends at the opportunity and learned the basics. We're excited for Molly to call with us this evening!
Please also consider joining us for the
Old Time Strings Jam Session \(at the Ely Folk School from 4-5pm\)
before the dance!
A big thanks to Molly Roske, our caller for the evening, and our talented local musicians headed by Joe Smith for their accompaniment! This event would not be possible without the dedicated help of our volunteer team and the generous sponsorship of Ely Family Dental.
