Lessons from the Monastery: Tips for Resilient Living

Saint Benedict, the founder of western monasticism, wrote a "Rule" for living which has guided communities in healthy living for centuries. This class will provide a brief overview of the Benedictine tradition, including its history in Northeastern Minnesota. Students will be introduced to the Benedictine values derived from St. Benedict's Rule, including hospitality, stewardship, justice, peace, and the dignity of work. Students will also discover daily practices used by western monastics to develop resiliency amidst the challenges of community living.
