PACT Symposium: Speaker Dr. Norman Wirzba

Norman Wirzba was raised on a family farm in southern Alberta. After studying history at the University of Lethbridge, he completed a Master's degree in theology at Yale and then a PhD in philosophy at Loyola University of Chicago. He taught philosophy at St. Thomas More College/University of Saskatchewan for two years, then moved to Georgetown College, Kentucky where he taught for thirteen years and was chair of the philosophy department. For the last eighteen years he has taught theology at Duke University, where he is currently the Gilbert T Rowe Distinguished Professor of Theology and a Senior Fellow at the Kenan Institute for Ethics. He lectures frequently across North America and Europe on environmental and cultural issues, and is the author of multiple books, including Food and Faith: A Theology of Eating, This Sacred Life: Humanity's Place in a Wounded World, Agrarian Spirit: Cultivating Faith, Community and the Land, an d Living the Sabbath: Discovering the Rhythms of Rest and Delight. His most recent book in Love's Braided Dance: Hope in a Time of Crisis. When he is not teaching or writing, Norman enjoys gardening, cooking, baking\\ , playing guitar, and making things with wood. He is the father of four adult children and granddad to two precious grandchildren.
