Art, Resistance and Cultural Diplomacy

The French Connexions franco-american center at WashU is hosting a bilingual day of events commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of the death of André Malraux \(1901-1976\), one of the most influential French writers, intellectuals, filmmakers, and cultural statesmen of the twentieth century. Through Jean-Louis Jeannelle's lecture in French, an interdisciplinary roundtable in English, a screening of the restored film Espoir, Sierra de Teruel, and an exhibition at Olin Library devoted to Malraux and cinema, the program will examine the enduring literary, political, artistic, and cinematic legacy of Malraux's work and engagement. Th is commemoration has received the official "Année Malraux" label.
