Inspired by the true story of Tan Yunxian, a female physician in 15th-century China. The book follows Yunxian as she defies Confucian expectations for women to become a doctor, learning traditional Chinese medicine from her grandmother and forming a deep bond with a midwife named Meiling, exploring themes of female friendship, tradition, and perseverance in a patriarchal society.
