Martha Wells’s “All Systems Red”

Have an appetite for science fiction but don't have time to delve into another space opera? Join us every second Monday of the month to discuss the novellas and short story collections of award-winning sci-fi authors. Through this book club's offerings of stories, readers will explore a range of topics, from androids to time travel, from classic to Indigenous sci-fi. Interested participants are welcome to pick up their copies of this month’s book at Divoll.

For December, we’re reading All Systems Red, the first installment of Martha Wells’s Murderbot Diaries and a Hugo and Nebula Awards winner for best novella. After overriding its control module, Murderbot becomes a free agent. Not knowing what to do with its newly found freewill–beyond binge watching its favorite show–Murderbot pretends to be a security unit for a group of hippy space scientists. But keeping them alive on an alien planet proves to be harder than expected.
