Legal Services Clinic Hours

Attorneys and advocates from Legal Services of Eastern Missouri (LSEM) are partnering with the St. Louis Public Library to hold clinic hours at Central Library. These hours will be held on the third Thursday of each month from 9 am to 12 pm. Individuals attending the clinic will have a chance to meet with Legal Services staff representing three different Legal Services programs: the Children’s Legal Alliance, the Youth and Family Advocacy Program, and the Legal Advocacy for Adults with Mental Illness Program.

Appointments with the attorneys and advocates from LSEM will be made on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 9 am on the day of the clinic. Limited appointments are available.

The Legal Advocacy for Adults with Mental Illness (LAAMI) Program assists individuals who are living with, or at-risk of, developing mental or behavioral health conditions to resolve legal problems through a combination of legal advocacy and social work assistance. Common issues serviced include housing issues, simple divorces, orders of protection, access to public benefits, powers of attorney, guardianship termination, municipal tickets and warrants, criminal record expungements, and legal name changes. Please visit the website lsem.org to learn more about eligibility requirements and the kinds of matters the program can handle.

The Youth and Family Advocacy Program provides civil legal assistance and social work support to youth and families experiencing homelessness or housing instability. This program can assist with a broad range of legal issues, including helping youth get legal documents like birth certificates, state IDS, or social security cards; applying for public benefits like food stamps or Medicaid; municipal or traffic tickets; credit problems like identity theft; and family law issues such as custody, paternity, and orders of protection. Please visit the website lsem.org to learn more about eligibility requirements and the kinds of matters the program can handle.

The Children’s Legal Alliance assists families to advocate for their children's educational rights to receive special education plans, out-of-school learning, and to help with school enrollment for children who are experiencing homelessness. We serve children with disabilities primarily, children experiencing homelessness, and children who have been expelled or suspended. As educational advocates, LSEM helps parents be champions for their kids. Please visit the website lsem.org to learn more about eligibility requirements and the kinds of matters the program can handle.

Legal Services of Eastern Missouri provides free, no-cost legal assistance to each client who meets our eligibility requirements and is accepted for services.
