Marquis Hill

This event features live music from Marquis Hill, a Chicago-born trumpeter, composer, and bandleader whose sound spans jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and neo-soul with effortless mastery.

Winner of the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Competition and a DownBeat Critics Poll "Rising Star" in trumpet, Hill has built an international reputation on a sound that evokes the stillness of Miles, the virtuosity of Clifford Brown, and the groove of Lee Morgan, while remaining entirely his own. Leading his celebrated ensemble the Blacktet, praised by the Chicago Tribune as "a remarkably polished, immensely attractive ensemble," he has collaborated with Marcus Miller, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kurt Elling, and Joe Lovano. On the Blue LLama stage, Marquis Hill delivers jazz that is deeply grounded and completely alive.
