IGNITE: Personal Safety Starts with You

Personal safety starts long before a situation becomes physical. IGNITE is a four-part interactive series designed to help people of all ages become more aware, confident and proactive about their own protection. This isn’t a sit-and-listen lecture. Through interactive exercises, real-world scenarios, group participation and a little fun, we’ll put what we’re learning into practice. The series begins with situational awareness and avoidance—learning to pay attention to your surroundings, recognize when something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and identify potential problems before they escalate. We’ll also work on one of the most important and often overlooked parts of personal safety: setting and enforcing healthy boundaries and becoming comfortable saying no. Personal safety doesn’t stop when we go online. We’ll explore internet and social-media safety, including how much information we unknowingly share, location and privacy concerns, communicating with people online and how our digital habits can affect our real-world safety. Throughout the four-part series, we’ll build on those foundations with defensive mindset, physical readiness, creating distance, personal protection options, decision-making under pressure and what to do when avoidance isn’t enough. Men, women, teens and children are welcome, and families are encouraged to attend together. The material will be approachable and age-appropriate, with an emphasis on building awareness and confidence rather than fear. You won’t just hear about personal safety. You’ll participate, work through situations, challenge the way you think and leave with practical skills you can use in everyday life. Prepared, not paranoid.
