Don't Look Now | Friday Night Frights

Adapted from a Daphne du Maurier short story, Don't Look Now follows John (Donald Sutherland) and Christine (Julie Christie), still grieving over the accidental death of their daughter, as they head to Venice for John's work restoring a church. Soon, Laura meets two sisters who claim to be in touch with the spirit of their dead daughter and the couple must decide what is real, what is supernatural, and what is somewhere in-between. Renowned for innovative editing style, memorable recurring aesthetic motifs, an impressionistic formal style, and nonlinear storytelling that destabilizes the viewer, the film was controversial on its release but is now considered a classic, landing multiples times on Sight and Sound’s list of the best films of all time, the BFI list of greatest British films, and was reevaluated by Roget Ebert as an occult-horror classic. Don’t Look Now has also inspired filmmakers like Danny Boyle, Lynne Ramsey, Ari Aster, Steven Soderbergh, and many more. [110 min; horror; English and Italian]
