Filipino American History Month: Rooted in the Philippines, Created in Chicago

The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago, together with the Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago and the Chicago Public Library, brings together five Filipino-American creatives representing music, film, literature, food and fashion for an engaging conversation about their craft, the influence of their Filipino heritage, and their contributions to Chicago's cultural landscape.

Guests include Ms. Lou Ella Cabalona, co-founder and lead singer of SamaSama Project; Ms. Cindy Martin, documentary filmmaker, King Horse Films; Ms. Zee Lacson, author of The Woolgathering Trilogy and Twice Removed; Mr. Roland Floro Calupe, Ower and Chef of Panlasa; and Ms. Edrei Alaban, founder and fashion designer, Alaban Fashion.

The program will also feature showcases from each creative - including live performance, a short film screening, a book reading, a food tasting, and a fashion presentatinon - celebrating the many ways Filipino-American creativity is enriching Chicago today.
