Sibling Revelry: Readings by Terry Blackhawk and Tom Bohnhorst

The East Lansing Public Library is pleased to present “Sibling Revelry: Readings by Terry Blackhawk and Tom Bohnhorst”– two authors, each with a new book, who return to the town where their parents made their home for over thirty years. Their father Dr. Ben Bohnhorst retired in 1986 as professor emeritus from the MSU College of Education; their mother, pianist Marie Bohnhorst, served as accompanist for the East Lansing Unitarian Church for 20 years. Both were avid members of the Lansing Bridge Club. Ben was an active promoter of poetry in Lansing, and until her sudden death in 2002, Marie volunteered for Hospice of Lansing.

After fifty years as a Detroiter, award-winning poet and educator “Big Sis” Terry, founding director of the city’s noted InsideOut Literary Arts Project, moved to Connecticut to live near her son Yale Professor Ned Blackhawk and grandchildren. Doom & Beauty, her tenth poetry collection, represents her first foray into prose poetry. Tom, a 1975 graduate of MSU, joins from Traverse City where he works as a semi-retired social worker. An engaging collection of memoirs, Tom’s first collection, Highway 80 Revisited, traces his journey from boyhood to young adulthood with drama, warmth, and humor. Since brother and sister cast their own slants of light on some of the same family events, a stereophonic effect can be anticipated.
