Youth Chess

Join chess instructor, Mr. Ben Steele, for Children's Chess Club! Kids ages 6-14 can learn some new skills and get a chance to play chess with other kids! Mr. Steele will start each class by teaching kids the fundamentals of chess. New players are encouraged to join the class! After some instruction there will be free play. More experienced players are also welcome and will have time to play after the instruction portion of the class. Registration is required.

Grown-ups of the children who are playing chess are welcome to stay in the Children’s Auditorium and be in the room to observe. Grown-ups of children ages 6 and 7 need to stay in the Children’s Auditorium or be in the Children’s Area while the class is going on. Children ages 8 and up need to have a grown-up in the Decatur Public Library while the program is going on.
