Civil Civics 2026 Film Series: White Men vs. Everybody Else

As we wrap up the series, this week we'll be watching episode 7, "Two Sisters Fight for Freedom", and episode 11, "The German Coast Uprising", examining slavery through two different stories.

In "Two Sisters", the sisters are Northern abolitionists, confronting opposition from poor Whites, being told that the end of slavery would result in them losing their jobs to free Blacks immigrating North as cheap labor.

In "German Coast", the largest slave rebellion in US history is recalled. Over 500 Africans in Louisiana banded together against their owners and US troops and state militia, with the goal of establishing a Black Republic with New Orleans as its capital. It did not go well. It did, however, set the stage for later, more successful rebellions.
