Fanfares and New Beginnings

For many years, the DMCO’s fall concert has held a special place in the hearts of Des Moines families. With its Halloween- adjacent timing and a program full of delightfully spooky and atmospheric music, the concert became a beloved community tradition- one where children and adults were encouraged to come dressed in their finest costumes. We greatly treasure those memories.

This year will be different, but equally as wonderful. “Fanfares & New Beginnings” is a program built for grandeur, celebration, and the exhilarating feeling of fresh starts- music that reflects the spirit of a new conductor stepping onto the podium for the very first time and an orchestra ready to soar.

Costumes won’t be the theme of the afternoon this year, but the DMCO invites you to come in your finest concert attire to honor this milestone event or come as you are.

What matters most is that you are there!

The concert takes place at Sheslow Auditorium, Drake University’s landmark performance space, one of Des Moines’s most historic and cherished venues. Doors will open ahead of the 2:00 performance and admission is entirely free.

You will enjoy selections from Copland,

Beethoven, Holst, the main theme from the 1970’s horror film “Halloween, the Funeral March from Marionette’s, the rarely performed Symphony #1 by Rimsky Korsakov, and more!

Please join us! We look forward to seeing you!
