Play: “Squirrel is Alive”

“Squirrel is Alive” is based on the book of the same name by Mary Rostad, adapted for the stage and directed by Judy Myers. It tells the story of an ordinary girl’s actions to save her country. It will be in the Academy Theatre at Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (1164 W. Howard Street).

In 1942, at the age of 17, with more “guts than brains” and only the clothes on her back, Mary Brouillard joins the resistance against the German Nazis. Serving as a carrier of vital information for the Allies, Mary takes us on her journey as she travels through Brussels, France, and Spain, trying desperately to remain underground. By accident, she ends up in Normandy for the invasion of D-Day. After the war, Mary works for the Americans in Germany archiving the atrocities of the Holocaust. There she meets her future husband, Allen Rostad from Houston, Minnesota. Reluctantly at first, Mary begins telling her story of WWII. You too can make a difference!!
