"To Be Destroyed" Screening
In recognition of Banned Books Week, join us for a screening of To Be Destroyed, a short film that follows Dave Eggers as he meets with students and teachers in a school district where his novel The Circle was pulled from shelves. Through footage of heated school board meetings, community rallies and interviews with locals, we learn how these books were designated “to be destroyed."
After the film, a panel of local library directors, Muskegon Museum of Art's Associate Director, as well as special guests, Sam Helmick (President of the American Library Association), and Amber Sheerin (Michigan Library Association) will discuss experiences with book/art challenges and the importance of freedom of speech and expression.
A cash bar will be available before the screening.
