The Witches of November
In the autumn, frigid air from the north descends on the Great Lakes. The water temperature, however, is still warm from summer, and the combination of cold and warm creates turbulent storms. This presentation will explore how the Witches of November (also called the Gales of November) have been responsible for thousands of shipwrecks in our inland seas.
Speaker Bio: Emilie Le Beau Lucchesi, PhD is an author, educator, and journalist. Her work has appeared in National Geographic, The New York Times, USA Today, and The Atlantic. She is a regular contributor to Discover Magazine. She is the author of three nonfiction books, and she holds a PhD in communication from the University of Illinois-Chicago.
