Mystery Book Club

This month we're discussing A Conspiracy of Paper by David Liss.

Benjamin Weaver, a wayward son of Duke’s Place, the main Jewish community of 18th-century London, calls himself a “thief-taker.” We would call him a private eye, of the decidedly hard-boiled variety. The tough-as-nails ex-prizefighter must solve a series of murders that seem to connect the city’s criminal underworld to “’Change Alley,” whose coffeehouses are giving birth to the modern stock market. But wherever he goes, Weaver is never allowed to forget his status as part of a barely tolerated minority. Will the case end up leading him back to his roots?
