"Midcentury Christmas" with Presenter Leslie Goddard
Christmas in America from the 1940s through the 1960s meant aluminum trees, Shiny Brite ornaments, and cartoon specials on TV. Every kid had to have an Easy-Bake Oven, Silly Putty, or a Slinky. The coolest houses had bubble lights on their trees. Historian Leslie Goddard, Ph.D. explores this optimistic era in an illustrated lecture, using photographs, advertisements, greeting cards, and catalogs to explore why these postwar years were a unique era in how we celebrate the holidays.
