WiE Take Your Seat at the Table Speaker Series: Kiara Williams

What does it feel like to be the youngest person at the table? Sometimes getting a seat at the table is only the beginning. When you’re surrounded by people with more experience, more years of life, more years in the field, or more confidence, it can be easy to question whether you really belong there.

In this workshop, I’ll share lessons from my own experiences being the youngest person in the room and what I’ve learned about navigating self-doubt, building confidence, and finding people who supported my personal and professional growth. We’ll also talk about being open to coaching and feedback, why allies are so important, and how your leadership style will continue to change as you grow. Most importantly, we’ll talk about something I wish more young leaders heard you are allowed to grow while you lead. The person you are in your 20s doesn’t have to be the person you become, and that’s not a weakness. That’s part of the process.

This session is open to undergraduate and graduate engineering students. RSVP here by November 10th.

About the Speaker

I’m Kiara M. Williams, M.Ed., an educator, leader, and learner, and I’ve spent a surprising amount of my career being the youngest person at the table. I’m excited to share some of my story with you and talk about what it really looks like to grow into the person you’re becoming.
