Health Literacy Awareness Month
In recognition of Health Awareness Month this October, the Public Health Club invites students to an interactive and educational event focused on understanding and improving health literacy. In collaboration with Students for Health Literacy, this program will explore what health literacy means, why it matters, and how it impacts everyday health decisions, academic success, and long-term well-being.
The event will begin with a brief, student-friendly discussion defining health literacy and highlighting real-world examples of how individuals navigate healthcare systems, interpret medical information, and advocate for their health. Attendees will also be introduced to accessible campus and community resources that support informed health decision-making.
To reinforce learning in an engaging way, participants will take part in a fun, team-based trivia/Jeopardy-style game featuring questions on public health topics, health myths vs. facts, and practical health knowledge. This interactive component is designed to build community, encourage participation, and make learning about health literacy approachable and memorable.
This event supports the mission of fostering informed, empowered students by promoting awareness, education, and access to health resources in an inclusive and collaborative environment.
