Film: The Final Girls (2015)
Camp Cinewhack Festival Directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson With Taissa Farmiga, Malin Akerman, Adam DeVine Rated PG-13, 91 minutes, 4K UHD When a group of high school students are transported into the world of a 1986 slasher film called Camp Bloodbath, the scene is immediately set for a meta horror/comedy that defined much of the post-Scream world. A tricky subgenre of film to reinvent because they are under such a Sour Patch Kid threat: They can quickly become too sweet with superfluous inside wink-winks or too sour with a cynical disillusionment that undercuts the fun to be had. The Final Girls, often cited as being criminally underseen, manages to walk the tightrope, in part because of the touching mother-daughter relationship that serves both as the story's spine and heart. Camp Cinewhack is a capsule festival of campy camp horror films curated by camp counselors Paul Rust and Dr. Anna Wald. GET TICKETS Co-presented by the Meg and John P. Brogan Endowment for Classic Cinema.
